In 1866, the crested gecko was described by a French zoologist named Alphonse Guichenot. This species was thought extinct until it was rediscovered in 1994 during an expedition led by Robert Seipp. WebGeographic Range This species is found along the Cape York Peninsula, in the northeast of Queensland (Cogger 2014). Habitat This species is found in dry sclerophyll forests, woodlands and rock outcrops (Wilson and Swan 2013).
