The only exception is the (pretty much useless) Doctor's Code, which has to equiped on the party leader. It's not useless by a long shot. Early game this item saved my bacon several times because at that stage, potions are still of use.

It doesn't affect the cieth stone missions achievement, i can confirm that. However if you want the 5star achievement on the last boss, that has to be done on normal....
