Web17 feb. 2024 · Ionization Smoke Detector. It is the most popular type of smoke detector used by people all over the world. It uses ionized fragments to detect if there is smoke present. This detector has trace amounts of radioactive compounds in it placed in the middle of electrically-charged plates. WebOptical smoke alarms work via an infra-red LED which sends out a pulse of light into the units sensor chamber every 10 seconds. If smoke enters the chamber, it causes light to be scattered across the internal receptor which in turn causes a signal to be sent to the integrated circuit that triggers the alarm.
